Leisure was always the name of the game in Lefkara. Ladies had a small but steady income from their embroidering. Men practiced a craft and had a side-income from collecting the olives, carobs, almonds and the grapes that nature produced. And of course there was the contribution from the wandering salesmen abroad, the kentitarides.

To this day ladies embroider in groups outside their doors or in the courtyard. Men, locals and visitors alike, meet at the coffee shops. They also sit outside in the streets or the balconies and discuss the issues of the moment, sipping coffee or zivania. There is a bridge-club in the village that seems to attract people from the cities.

Women take long walks that often bring them to the little chapels in the countryside to light a candle, relax and make a prayer after a hard days work. In the summer there are fruits, figs, and almonds that can be collected from the fields; in the winter wild greens, mushrooms and olives.

In summer evenings, everybody seems to have the same idea; all able bodies, males and females, young and old take the final walk of the day in the coolness of night, in the winding narrow alleys of the village and along the two streets leading out of the village. At the 'new road' and near the village square they gather at the coffee shops and restaurants to eat, drink and socialize.

In Lefkara you are in the very heart of Cyprus. Nothing is far away. A trip to the beach for a swim is so easy that it is a part of the daily activities in the summer. A short ride away along the road to Vavatsinia the restaurants, hidden in the pines are popular not only with the people from the surrounding communities, but also from the cities.

At the nearby fishing village of Zygi, fish restaurants and taverns by the water abound and attract people from the area and the cities. And then there is the tourist area of Limassol at Agios Tychonas just 30 km away.

Sight seeing can always be combined with a stop for a swim and with a visit to a restaurant for a delicious meal.

Fishing in the dams of Lefkara and Dypotamos near Kato Lefkara is a favorite sport. There is a stadium in Lefkara which can be used for those interested in training. Soccer teams can practice there and some do; Cyprus teams in the summer and north Europeans in the winter.

In the near-by village of Tochni one can enjoy horse-riding or rent a bike. Guided tours are also available.
